Projects

Here's just a small sampling of the projects that are helping kids Play Forever.

Keystone College Women’s Softball

Keystone College Softball is a collegiate DIII women's team at Keystone College in La Plume, Pennsylvania. Keystone College is a quaint, private institution that prides itself on its small-town atmosphere and is home to many academic and athletic opportunities.

For the Keystone Softball Team, some experiences are better than others. The team and the community have had to work together this past year in an attempt to clean up and rebuild the softball field on campus after a significant storm ravaged North East Pennsylvania in September of 2023. This storm took out the softball field in the process and left nothing but destruction behind. The devastation of this storm has severely impacted the everyday life of these athletes and caused significant financial hardships to the team. The team lost the most integral piece of equipment to the game of softball: a safe field they can call home.

Board Members and co-founders Grant Gelt, "Bertram Grover Weeks," and Shane Obedzinski, "Tommy repeat Timmons," met with these amazing female athletes and heard about how being athletes has affected their lives and how this hardship has impacted their experiences.

The Play Forever Project was proud to assist the Keystone Softball Team with some of their financial hardships on this visit.

Boys & Girls Club, Atlantic City NJ

Play Forever officially kicked off with its first equipment giveaway in July 2022, where we donated basketballs and soccer balls, as well as t-shirts and hats, to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City. As an organization that serves youth athletes, we wanted to support the great work that the Club does in this city.

The sports equipment was donated to the Teen Center, which helps AC youth learn valuable job skills and career readiness, plus provides healthy foods, opportunities for athletics recreation, mentoring leadership classes, and academic enrichment including homework help.

We selected the AC Boys and Girls Club because of their fantastic engagement with local, historically under-reached kids living in an under-resourced community - which is one of our core goals. What we loved the most is the attention to athletics this center gives students. The recent refurbishment of their indoor basketball court to turn into a true tournament arena will allow AC youth to finally be showcased in regional tournaments, which will give them access to competitive college recruiters.

Here at Play Forever, we recognize the lifeline that sports can be for people at high risk of poverty or those with fewer academic or career resources, and we applaud the Atlantic City Boys and Girls Club for their tremendous work to support youth athletes in the city.

Cast members Victor DiMattia (“Timmy Timmons”), Grant Gelt (“Bertram Grover Weeks”), Tom Guiry (“Scotty Smalls”), and Marty York (“Yeah-Yeah”), got a chance to meet some of the center’s youth during a Q&A session during their visit, and we want to thank the Atlantic City Boys and Girls club for allowing us to visit and kick-start our organization!
